American Craft Beer Week – May 16-22, 2011 – What Knoxville Beer Snobs Need to Know

Hello Fellow Beer Snobs!

Earlier this week I posted a video regarding American Craft Beer week. If you missed it, here it is again.

American Craft Beer week is about celebrating the culture and community of craft beer. Knoxville beer snobs, we have much to celebrate! It’s been a great year of growth for craft beer in good old Knox-vegas. I mean, just this week our own Marble City Brewing Company released their first beer! Also in the last year we’ve seen more choices in the market, we’ve seen new stores open and expand, more beer-related events and the ol’ growler is getting a fair amount of attention. It’s an exciting time!

So, let’s celebrate! Here are a few of the things/sales I’m aware of and I’ll update this as I learn more.

The Market @ Washtington & High is celebrating by highlighting their new growler wall. 10% off of all growlers AND refills all week. How awesome is that?! They’ve also got Marble City Brewing Nectar Rubus and Depot Street Amber on the way. If you don’t have a growler, this would be a great time to get one. Also, The Market has some pretty competitive prices on growlers anyway, so another 10% off, well, I like to think of that as “tax free!”

Vic’s in North Knoxville is also celebrating by discounting all craft beer 6 & 12 packs as well as pick 6, 6 packs by 10% – yep, you heard me right. Also, $2 off growler fills all week. They’ll be posting their growler wall lineup on their Facebook page shortly. If you haven’t checked out Vic’s yet, this is a great opportunity to do so. This is probably the only place I’m aware of in Knoxville that has both beer and high-gravity beer in one stop.

The Bearden Beer Market is running specials all week long AND will be highlighting regional breweries throughout the week – 18 breweries in 7 days. Check it out here. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for other specials and events – like a bike ride from Cherokee to Asheville visiting 5 breweries along the way. 92 miles! Makes me wish I was in better shape!

Now, you may be wondering what else you can do. Here’s a list I’ve started:

1) Buy your Knoxville Brewfest tickets if you haven’t already. Come on, you and I both know that if you’ve read this far and you don’t already have plans to be somewhere better….like maybe Bora Bora, that you’re going to go. Go ahead and get ’em before they sell out!

2) Go to the Little River Beer Club meeting on the 19th. They meet on the third Thursday at Miss Lily’s in Townsend and while I haven’t heard anything on this meeting yet, I’m pretty sure it’ll occur. If that’s too much of a haul, go check out pint night at The Pizza Kitchen. I hear Laughing Skull is on the agenda from Red Brick Brewery in Atlanta – also on the 19th.

3) Hug a craft brewer. While we don’t have too many of ’em here in ole’ Knox-vegas, we’ve got ’em. Show ’em you love ’em. They also like cash….just saying.

If you want to know more, check out craftbeer.com. I’ve heard rumblings of a few other things and I’ll post as they develop. Otherwise, enjoy and I hope to see you over a pint soon.

Cheers!
