Rogue – Imperial Stout
Hello fellow beer fans. I’ve been away for awhile on personal business but now it is time to get back to the ever important business of keeping you folks educated. Man this was a great weekend. Weather was fantastic for enjoying a cold one on the patio and watching my son play in the yard. I actually glanced at the mass amounts of leaves lying around and almost began to rake. I headed for the beer fridge and pulled out this little beauty. Damn, this is really tasty.
I went ahead and poured into a regular ol’ pint glass and wondered at the 2.5 inch dark tan head. That was almost as cool as the painted porcelain bottle with the swing-top head to keep it fresh. Apparently these are in limited quantities and I found mine at the Northshore Wine & Spirits. You now can find this brew in the normal 12oz bottles. The color is jet black and smells of coca and coffee. Rogue uses six different malts in this beer, resulting in a silky smooth but intense roasted malt bitterness with notes of cocoa and coffee. The hop bitterness is perfect for this stout. You get a nice bitter/dry finish and have to swing the top for another pint.
Final snobs: I was very impressed with the smoothness of this brew and the flavor was incredible. There was a moment that I thought about saving half for snobRob but alas, it was in vain. Grab yourself either the 750 ml swing-top or the 12oz bottle. It will not disappoint.
