Pink Pint Night @ Saw Works Brewing Company
Fear: we can allow it to control us or we can conquer this beast…wrestle with it, face it, defeat it. It is pervasive in all of us – whether we admit it or not, but it’s something that we easily recognize and it often shows itself in our weakest moments. It does not define us but it does allow us to define ourselves.
Cancer: we often hear this word. It is often used as a metaphor to describe something that eats or destroys. It has touched each of us in differnt ways and will continue to do so throughout our lives as those we love are impacted by its presence. Fear is a word that we often hear associated with this disease.
First Descents is a group that – as their website succinctly states – “First Descents offers young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle and surf beyond their diagnosis, defy their cancer, reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same.”
Growing up in the Boy Scouts, I had plenty of opportunities to do some pretty wild stuff – often scary at first – as they were new experiences, unknown to me. However, facing those fears, looking them in the face and conquering them, being able to look back and know I did THAT – I won’t lie, I think it impacted my character and my ability to face life’s challenges.
Tonight, at Saw Works Brewing Company, an event will kick off at 5pm affectionaly dubbed “Pink Pint Night.” This event will celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raise money for First Decents. They’ve got an awesome night planned and if you can make time, I hope you will. There will be a pretty awesome silent auction with a lot of cool stuff including a beer basket including a nice selection of South Carolina beers from your friends here at KnoxBeerSnobs.
To those who are still in the throes of battle, we stand with you – you can do this. To those of you who have faced cancer and have been victorious, I raise my glass to you.
Hope you can make it tonight. Cheers.
