Hops for Hope – Benefiting New Hope Blount County Children’s Advocacy Center
It’s not often in life that you get to do something you really love while supporting a great cause at the same time. True, there are fundraisers and often beer-related festivals that support a cause of some sort which we here at KnoxBeerSnobs fully support. However, this event is a little bit different.
I only recently learned of Hops for Hope from our friends at The Market at Washington and High after a beer tasting one night. What a great name! Further, those that read the blog know we’re hop heads, so hearing “hops” alone is like giving a six year old pixy sticks before bedtime. The next morning I hopped on these vast intertubes to learn about the organization that benefits from this event. New Hope is a resource for children, specifically abused children. It’s certainly sad that we live in a day and age where harm can befall on the young but it is comforting to know that a place exists where these kids can go tell their story once and let the healing begin. I’d encourage you before you read any more to go to their website and see what these guys are about. Here is the link again.
Now, anytime you run a facility with such a noble cause, you are dependent on generous donations and fundraisers for part, or often all, of your operating expenses. That’s where Hops for Hope comes in. While this event isn’t in it’s first year, it’s still pretty new. Hops attracts several brewers from around the southeast to converge on Dancing Bear Lodge (DBL) in Townsend, TN. for an evening of beer tastings (final brewer list to follow in a subsequent post), fan-tab-u-lous (it’s a word) food from the awesome staff at the DBL, music, a silent auction and all sorts of fun – like a tricycle race. No, I’m not making that up and I’m REALLY looking forward to it. Also, Dr. Beer himself from The Market at Washington and High will be on hand with a possible high gravity tasting. You never know what tricks he’ll have up his sleeve.
Here’s what you need to know:
When: Friday, May 6th from 6pm-11-pm
Where: Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend, TN.
Cost: Tickets are $50 but they are LIMITED and WILL sell out – don’t mess around, call New Hope at 981-2000 and tell ’em we told you to call. It won’t get you anything but it’ll make us feel good.
Accomodations: I’m hearing rumors the DBL is booked but it doesn’t hurt to give them a shout and there are some other places nearby. Here’s a map to peruse the area.
Zingo will also be on hand to take you home should you need them. Also, you can go ahead and make a Zingo reservation when you call New Hope to order your tickets. For those that are wondering, Zingo is a service where they put a little motorcycle in the trunk of your car, drive you home in your car, then ride the little bike back – heroes among men.
Hops for Hope 2011 will certainly be a great time of fun, food and excellent beer. If you have any questions, give us a shout. We hope to see you there!
