Vic’s Package Store

Ahoy hoy fellow beer snobs!

We come to you today with a review of Vic’s Package Store. For those of you who may be wondering where this place is, here’s a map but in a nutshell, it’s basically across the street from the Home Depot on Clinton Highway.

Now, when most of us think “package store” we think liquor store and for many years, that’s just what Vic’s was. However, this past January Vic’s expanded and added a beer only section just to the left of their liquor store. This isn’t just an ordinary beer selection, it is certainly snob worthy. First things first, these guys do growlers. (For those of you wondering, yes, that IS Yazoo Hop Project on the far left.)

The prices vary based on the brew and whether or not you already have a growler. Vic’s will certainly supply one for you. The nice thing is, you buy the growler once, and you’re done. If you don’t know, a growler holds roughly four pints of beer and we all know, that draft tastes a lot better than bottles.

Now, these guys can get kegs of beer but they also get high gravity kegs as well. If you don’t know what high gravity is, it’s basically when the ABV is above 6.5% (in Tennessee anyway) which results in much more flavor due to the change of ingredients in the beer. At this time they can get certain Foothills and Fort Collins selections but Tim at Vic’s can tell you more. However, they do have cold high gravity beer next door in their liquor store with aspirations of growing this selection in the near future. At this point they do have the largest selection of COLD high gravity beer that we’re aware of in Knoxville (and we have purchased a few for future blog posts.)

Tim, at Vic’s, says he’ll keep us up to par on any sales or specials going on at the store and rumor has it that they are working on a growler deal (like a buy X and get one free type thing) – more to come.

Overall their selection is very good and prices seem very reasonable. These guys are very proactive with the Knoxville beer scene and trying to stay ahead of the curve. We’re very excited to see an establishment like this that has both quality beer and high gravity in one stop that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Definitely KnoxBeerSnobs approved.

These guys are also on Facebook and Twitter so make sure you keep an eye on them.
