Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest-Märzen

Hello fellow snobs!

In my Quest for the Best Oktoberfest brew I’ve grabbed a few more for review (Dr. Seuss inspired that sentence). If you didn’t catch my Ayinger Oktoberfest post, it gives some background on this event and this beer style in particular – märzen. Up on deck tonight I’ve grabbed a Hacker-Pschorr that I picked up from our friends at Leaf & Ale. I’d love to give you a history on the brewery but I don’t read German and Google Translate isn’t doing me any favors. For our German speaking friends, here’s the site link. For the rest of us, know this is a true German beer with a picture of a  woman, drinking a beer, riding side-saddle on a horse.

Alright, so this beer is a little bit different than the Ayinger beer I posted about the other day. I’ll get a few more Oktoberfest brews on here to compare but first off, this beer has a bit more of an amber hue to it and is noticeably more carbonated than the Ayinger. It also has a lot less head after the pour – as indicated in the picture. On the nose this is a very bread-like/malty beer – maybe some wheat tones in there. On the tongue, very crisp and clean with some sweetness and a bit of a bitter finish. The body on this beer is a bit lighter than I would expected, not bad but it makes this brew go down really easy. This beer also clocks in at 5.8% ABV.

Final snobs: This is a very drinkable beer that would be EASY to drink a lot of – perfect for an Oktoberfest festival! While I do like it, I think I’m going to have to put it in the current #2 spot in my Quest for the Best Oktoberfest.

Cheers!
