New Belgium – Snow Day Winter Ale

Well howdy there fellow snobs.  We have been on a bit of a hiatus for a month now since the beer festival season in these parts is preparing for hibernation.  There is however one or two more winter festivals on the horizon so stay tuned.  The days getting short and the nights cold can only mean one thing, winter brews are on the way.

The tasty beverage for today is Snow Day by the New Belgium brewery.  I had a sample of this on tap at Bearden Beer Market and brought a sixer home to get a better feel for the brew. The pour is a reddish black with a nice 2 inch light tan head and plenty of lacing.  New Belgium recommends a serving temp of 37 deg C. At this temp I could not get much for aroma other than toasted caramel and a bit of citrus.  The flavor at this temp is mostly hops but as it warms a bit you will get more roasted malt coming through.  There is high amount of bitterness that lingers for quite some time well after the roasted malt have died down.  That is all that I get from this brew.  Not very interesting for me.  The style is on the black IPA side for an ale labeled “winter” so be prepared.  After one I was after something else.  Not bad but not memorable as well.  See what you think.

ABV – 6.2%

Stay thirsty fellow snobs.
