Frosty mug or no frosty mug: that is the question
Some of you may remember our post on Dogfish Head’s Burton Baton and the few comments that ensued regarding appropriate beer delivery systems. We asked Stuart if he’d do a guest blog post and he happily obliged. So without further adieu, here it is!
Here’s my guest blog on so-called “beer delivery systems”…whatever you do, DO NOT DRINK OUT OF BOTTLES OR FROSTY MUGS IF YOU CARE TO TASTE THE BEER AT ITS BEST!
Seriously, you’re better off dumping it into a flowerpot…pouring a beer into almost any kind of vessel will open up the aromas and flavors (not to mention allow you to better appreciate the visual aspects of the beer), and not serving a beer at ice-cold temps will allow your tongue to pick up all the nuances that it can’t when it is cryogenically stunned. –Stuart Anderson
I certainly understand Stuart’s point and I have noticed on more than one occasion how a beer changes and opens up when the frosty pint glass in my hand warms up. Actually I haven’t employed the frosty mugs here at the house in quite some time. Thanks for the post Stuart!
So Knox-vegas and beer snobs from all over, what say ye on beer delivery systems? Are there particular glasses you like to use for particular beers? Let’s hear about it in the comments below.
