Kingsport Oktoberfest

Man, I am loving the nights here lately.  Nice cool breezes, perfect for hanging out on the deck and enjoying a frosty one. October is just around the corner but why wait?  I am talking about the Kingsport Oktoberfest telling everyone, who needs October? Let’s get this done in September, September the 24th to be exact.

Now, we’ve been talking about Oktoberfest on KBS here fairly frequently with KnoxBeerSnob Rob’s Quest for the Best Oktoberfest series. If you’re curious about some of the history behind this festival, and the beer so aptly named – check out his first post. What’s great about Kingsport Oktoberfest is what we have here is not just another beer fest we have ourselves a celebration of all that is German from brat eating contests to Weiner Dog races and all for no charge – right here in East Tennessee.  Got kids?? No problem. Bring them along and check out Das Kid Zone with a 1M kids fun run, blow up stuff (bounce houses and the like) crafts, face painting, balloon animal creators and more. Dad can drink whilst mom hangs with the kids. Perfect day right there (avoid angry glances from the wife).  Looking to get fit while drinking beer?  Try out the Beers, Tears and Cheers where you run a mile with a mug of beer and down it at the end.  Entry costs 15 bucks and goes to Toys For Tots or bring 2 unwrapped toys and your in for nada. There you go. Run, drink and yack all for kids. I’m in. Are you?? Good at cornhole? We have Guinness Book here for what hopefully will be the breaking of  the record for the longest cornhole toss which from what I have found is 106 feet. Don’t quote me on that folks. There is so much going on here that I suggest getting hold of an entertainment schedule.  There are things starting at 9am like the 1M kids run and at 10am we have the Marine Corps 5K mudrun. What would a festival be without music?  Kingsport Oktoberfest boasts 2 stages with 10 different bands as well as roaming German music to keep you in the drinking mood

Now on to the reason we are all here, to make sure that the creator of all the different flavors of tasty brews get to keep there jobs and provide us with more tasty brews. Win-win I say. There will be a great turnout in the Craft Bier Garden from craft brewers such as Thomas Creek from Greenville,NC., Depot Street from Jonesborough, TN., Highland Brewing Company from Asheville, NC., Moccasin Bend Brewing Co, from Chattanooga, TN., Wolf Hills from Abingdon, VA, Marble City Brewing Company from Knoxville, TN. and many more. Check out the link for the complete list. We also have a few interesting happenings coming your way. Studio Brew from right here in Kingsport will be making their first festival appearance and a brew named Flaming Pecan which is an infusion of Lazy Magnolia’s Southern Pecan with peppers.  Wolf Hills and Woodruff Brewery from Knoxville, TN. will also have an infused keg but I do not know with what so keep your eyes open as these will go fast.  Also there is a Beer University in the garden where you can learn how beer gets from the minds of the brewers to your belly. All of this for 29 bucks. Major deal folks. I could go on and on with all the super cool stuff that the Kingsport Octoberfest has to offer but I am a bit tired of typing and football is on so I will leave you with this parting thought – YOU NEED TO GO TO THIS!!! I have had the pleasure of meeting one of the creators and I have to say Aaron has so much energy and is so fired up about this festival he literally makes me tired.  I give you a KnoxBeerSnob promise that you will have a blast and if you do not, well,  there might be something wrong with you.

Cheers!!!
