The craft beer industry is growing and is on the rise and this goes far beyond craft beer lovers. Craft beer fans have always been very loyal to craft beer and are usually interested in trying all types of variety’s from different breweries across the United States and across the globe. Beyond just craft beer lovers the amount of consumers that are now interested in craft beer is growly rapidly. Over the past 13 years the number of food and beverage jobs has jumped by over 25%. The craft beer industry has seen even more impressive growth numbers. 2,304 breweries in the United States alone account for more than 103,585 jobs as of 2012. The growth of the craft beer industry is a beverage trend that intrigued both the faculty and students in the hospitality program of Kendall College. After all who wouldn’t want to learn and study about craft beer while in college? Both professors and students provided their insight into the creation of the craft beer infographic. This inforgraphic was created to not only show off the expertise and studies of both the students and faculty and Kendall, but also was designed to show the growth and impact of the craft beer industry. Here are some of the more interesting points presented in the infographic: • Sales of craft beer continues to grow. In 2012 craft beer sales equaled roughly 12 billion. That number doubled when you look at the overall sales from 2007 when craft beer sales only amounted to 5.7 billion. Industry experts project that craft beer sales will triple by 2017 from the rate they were in 2012. That is a large amount of growth in a small amount of time for the craft beer industry. • Food and craft beer go extremely well together. After all who doesn’t love to enjoy a good meal with a tasty beer? If you like drinking darker beers like a stout or barley wine try pairing them with desert options like pie and cake. Lighter beer styles like wheat beers and saisons pair better with lighter food options like salads and sushi. • 36% of consumers drink craft beer. • Nearly half of consumers would try more craft beer if they were more educated about it. This shows a big responsibility to craft beer makers to educate their audience about their offerings. • Younger age demographics tend to prefer the taste of craft beer more than their older counterparts. 32% of baby boomers say they prefer the taste of beer. When you look at millenials, 43% enjoy the taste of craft beer.
