Barrel Backers – Let’s Pre-Order Beer, Together

A fair number of people reach out to us here at KnoxBeerSnobs which is pretty cool as we get to meet a lot of new people and hear about some neat breweries, products, plans to take over the world, etc. Some things we hear about could be considered odd, far out eccentric, crazy….we tend to ignore those. Other things are kinda neat and we try to post and/or shoot it out over our social channels. When I first heard from Adam Rivette at Barrel Backers I could tell right off he had actually read out blog  – greatly appreciative of that – what I found out though is that he and his brother had come up with a pretty neat concept.

The way Barrel Backers works is a brewery will commit to sending out a beer (or beers as the offer may dictate) IF a certain amount of people will commit to it in a certain amount of time. What’s neat about this is that we – the lover of fermented goodness – gets to try a beer from a brewery we may not have even heard of before and the brewery gets to interact with customers they would otherwise never reach. Pretty neat.

So I gave it a shot. After perusing the current offerings and hitting up Untappd, rate beer and Beer Advocate, I chose “The Medal Box” from Fairport Brewing Company in Fairport, New York. The order was placed and within a few days I received a notification saying that the order had been “backed” – it was at that point my card was charged. 10 days later I received my beer mail – while I spend a fair amount on beer locally, there is no greater thrill than getting beer in the mail. I feel like a kid who just received a birthday present delivered from Cliff the mailman. The beer was very well packaged and is currently chilling in the fridge – I’ll get into it here shortly.
