NOLA Brewing Company | Hoppyright Infringement IIPA

We love a play on words and this beer certainly has that in spades. Turns out, once upon an iteration, a previous version of this beer was forced to change its name – and not by another brewery but by the widely popular Godzilla franchise – go figure! Times change, and so do beer recipes. When it was time to revise this one, the folks at NOLA Brewing wanted to tip their hat to the storied legacy of this beer’s predecessor. So here we are.

This beer pours a dark golden color. It is hazy with a big white head that hangs around. On the nose I find orange, grapefruit, a bit of earth notes. On the tongue this beer comes forward heavy on the citrus notes, more sweet at first but the bitterness comes through on the aftertaste. I find a bit of a bread-like quality from the malt. Medium to medium-heavy body, some alcohol warmth and it certainly coats the palate.

Final snobs: I see why this beer took the gold for American-Style Imperial or Double India Pale Ale at the 2019 Best of Craft Beer Awards – well done! At 7.6% ABV, this beer isn’t as big as it could be but it presents itself exceptionally well, full of flavor and a fun story to boot. I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised with how much I’m enjoying this one.

You can find this beer around the K-town area. I believe the Casual Pints carry it and I know I saw it at Total Wine.

Prost!
