Chattanooga Brewing Company

Over the weekend, while visiting the fantabulous city of Chattanooga, Don and I were able to make a stop in Chattanooga Brewing Company. Haven’t heard of ’em? Well, get ready, because these guys are coming. Chattanooga Brewing Company actually existed way back in 1890 and was a fairly large brewery. As did many breweries of the day, prohibition caused it’s doors to shutter. In 2010 Jonathan Clark and Mark Marcum revived Chattanooga Brewing Company on Frazier Avenue and have been brewing full steam ever since.

Engineers by trade, both Mark and Jonathan decided to team up and form Chattanooga Brewing Company after home brewing for several years. While their beer has primarily been served at restaurants and bars in the Chattanooga area, it has caught on like wildfire. Chattanoogans have rallied around this brewery and as a result, not only are Jonathan and Mark looking to add equipment, they are brewing beer at their current capacity full bore. We’re not talking one or two styles either – try 16. Their Hill City IPA and Imperial Pilsner can be found on tap throughout the year but there are 14 other varieties that are done seasonally. Don and I not only got to try the Hill City IPA and Imperial Pilsner but also the Kolsch, Hill City Pale and quite possibly the best whiskey barrel stout I’ve ever had. Yep, you read that right, whiskey-barrel-stout.

They also had a coffee stout that had just been floated a few days prior that I’m told was as good as or perhaps better than the whiskey barrel stout. The bottom line is that these guys aren’t afraid to play and try new recipes. Currently their beer can only be found in the keg variety as they aren’t bottling – yet – but they do operate growler hours Thursday and Friday 5-8pm and on Saturday from 2-5pm.

Now, you may be thinking this is great and all, but these guys are over 100 miles away from those of us in Knox-vegas. Fear not, they are on their way. Chattanooga Brewing Company is setup with Bounty Beverage out of Nashville and their beer will be distributing there within the next few weeks. Next stop, K-town. So keep your eyes out and ‘like’ them on Facebook.  They’ll also be joining us at Knoxville Brewfest so make sure you say “howdy” and if you make it by the brewery down in the ‘Noog – tell ’em the snobs sent ya.

Cheers!
