35th Parallel Ale | Collaboration Between Terrapin and Saw Works Brewing Company

35th_ParallelHowdy beer fans,

About a month ago we posted about the collaboration between Terrapin Beer Co. and the illustrious Saw Works Brewing Company of fabulous Knox-vegas, Tennessee. The beer was brewed on August 21st to be ready for the Tennessee vs. Georgia game right here in Knoxville on October 4th. Well, friends, the beer is ready and the boys down at Saw Works turned their backs just long enough for Don to fill a growler so we could run back to our secret hideout and tell you all about it. This beer will be available for public consumption on October 1st at select locations throughout the area.

So, the beer. The first thing we noticed was that it is a bit lighter than we recall when it went into the fermenter. However, don’t let the color fool you, the yeast exercised this beer like a Marine drill sergeant and after a few tears it came out all big and muscular – like Dave Ohmer, Master Brewer Extraordinaire for Saw Works Brewing Company.

This beer has a chunk of hops in it and we were both expecting to get a mouth full of hop flavor-fullness on the first sip. However, the sweetness of this beer is what hits the tongue first – a little bit of caramel and a heavy toast profile. Like a slow moving train the hops begin to open up as the beer makes it’s way to the back of your mouth – gone is the toast profile and a nice level of bitterness lingers on the palate for quite some time. At 5.7% ABV this beer is VERY drinkable and will be a welcome guest on game day whilst tailgating.

Final Snobs: Very excited about Saw Works first collaboration beer and this definitely will not their last. This is a great beer for a football game in the fall – perfect in fact. We look forward to next year’s collaboration!

Don’t forget, on October 4th, both the boys from Terrapin Beer Co. and Saw Works Brewing Company will be at the release party at Sunspot on the strip beginning at 6pm.

Cheers! GO VOLS!
