DEVILS BACKBONE BREWING COMPANY

ANNOUNCES TENNESSEE LAUNCH

2014 Great American Beer Festival Mid-Sized Brewery of the Year Comes to Knoxville

LEXINGTON, VA – Devils Backbone Brewing Company, the three times reigning Great American Beer Festival “Brewery of the Year” has begun pouring its award-winning beers throughout Tennessee.  Beer lovers in Knoxville will be the first in the state to enjoy Devils Backbone beers.  To celebrate the launch, Devils Backbone will host a week of tap takeovers and samplings across the city beginning on Tuesday, September 22.

“We are thrilled to be crafting our new adventure with our expansion into Tennessee.  This state is home to some great craft breweries and we now have the wonderful privilege of joining that mix and proudly bringing our world-class beer to the region,” says founder Steve Crandall, who along with his wife Heidi, started Devils Backbone Brewing Company in 2008 in the heartland of Virginia.

Devils Backbone operates two breweries in central Virginia:  Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows (200 Mosbys Run, Roseland, VA) the original brewery, restaurant and the Meadows, the new outdoor beer and dining area, located at the foot of the Three Ridge Mountains in scenic Nelson County;  and the Outpost Brewery & Tap Room, a state-of-the-art production brewery (50 North Wind Lane, Lexington, VA.)

Devils Backbone beers are inspired by the great brewing traditions of Europe and the ingenuity of modern craft brewing.  Brewmaster Jason Oliver and the DB brewing team have earned numerous awards and accolades for their beers, exceling in the art of lager brewing in an ale dominated industry.  “We treat each beer as an individual, and through recipe formulation and process, strive to bring forth the subtleties in the style to create a first-rate beer experience,” says Oliver.

For the launch week, Devils Backbone will be serving its “Basecamp Favorites” including:  the flagship Vienna Lager, a medium bodied beer with a subtle toasted caramel note that won gold medals at the World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival;  Eight Point IPA, a balanced, traditional India Pale Ale with a grapefruit aroma and piney hop flavor;  and Gold Leaf Lager, a refreshing golden lager which has collected multiple gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival.

Other brews that will be pouring throughout the week include:  Schwartz Bier, a German Style Black Lager;  Trail Angel, a Bavarian-style Hefeweizen;  Four Point, a single hop session IPA;  Smokehaus Lager, an aromatic amber lager;  Stringduster a multigrain pale ale;  and specialty firkins.   Launch event schedule will be:

Devils Backbone Brewing Company is the largest craft brewery in Virginia and one of the most award-winning breweries in the United States.  Currently the reigning 2014 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) “Mid-Sized Brewing Company” and “Brew Team of the Year,” the company also received GABF 2013 awards for “Small Brewing Company” and “Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year” and 2012 “Small Brewpub” and “Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year.”

Seven years ago the Crandall’s, inspired by a skiing trip in Italy where they had their first taste of German beer, opened the doors to Devils Backbone Brewing Company.  Basecamp Brewpub was an instant regional success and with so many beer lovers asking where they could purchase the brews, they broke ground on the Outpost in 2011.  Anticipated to produce 10,000 barrels of beer in the first ten years of operation, the Outpost reached 45,000 barrels in the first three years and is currently completing an additional expansion to be able to produce 250,000 barrels.  In addition to Tennessee, Devils Backbone is available in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and the District of Columbia.

Devils Backbone partnered with Eagle of Knoxville to distribute throughout the region.  For more information on Devils Backbone, please visit the website, www.dbbrewingcompany.com.  You can also follow along as they Craft an Adventure in Tennessee on social #DBbeerTN on Facebook/devilsbackbonebrewingcompany, Twitter @dbbrewingco and Instagram @devilsbackbonebrewingcompany.
