Left Hand-Milk Stout
O.K. folks, winter is here as I freeze my ass off getting in the car every morning on the way to drop the little man off at daycare and having to listen to Rusted Root’s- Send me on my way from the Ice Age movie for the thousandth time. Guess it could be worse, I dig RR. One good thing about winter is stout time. They just seem to fit so well with cold hands.
Man I really dig this stout and have to mention that the Left Hand brewery is partially run by solar power. Nice. Pours out a nice bark brown with no haze. Head is minimal and light tan in color. I get a hint of cocoa on top of the dark roasted malt that is a bit more pronounced than the other stouts I have tried. The taste is all stout, big roasted malt and coffee flavors but, with a nice milky/creamy flavor derived from the addition of lactose. The body is not too heavy resulting in easy drink-ability. The 5.8% abv is unnoticeable and it has the perfect amount of carbonation.
This is one of my favorite stouts and is becoming a staple in my beer fridge, year around. I am the IPA man here at BeerSnobs but, one can not live on IPA’s alone, right?
