Saw Works Brewing Company Seasonal – India Pale Ale

Howdy fellow snobs –

FOOTBALL!!!! That’s right, it’s football time. I can smell it in the air…well, I can’t…I really don’t know what “it” is supposed to smell like. I get the pigskin thing and when I smell charcoal in September, it’s hard not to think about football…so let’s go with that. On August 8th, if you happened to drive by Saw Works Brewing Company you may have smelled the voluptuous scent of steeping grains and boiling wort. Head Brewer Dave Ohmer isn’t just a pretty face around the hallowed halls of Saw Works – no sir, that incredibly good looking man is quite the brewer…and brew he did.

Up on deck tonight is Saw Works first seasonal brew – an English IPA. As you can see from the incredible professional photo to the right, this beer has a terrific color, perfect for fall (Don’s words, not mine). As you can see, it pours with a nice amount of head – there was more, but I was busy playing Ansel Adams. On the nose we get some nice roasted scent, some biscuit and a subtle hint of sweetness. This beer starts out sweet on the tongue with a light roasted malt flavor that we picked up on in the scent. However, as this beer goes down the “English” part of this beer really shines and an overwhelming bitterness seems to last for quite some time after finishing. While some of us enjoy that lingering bitterness the best way to counteract it is to have another sip. After the second sip, should you find the lingering bitterness to have returned, we suggest another sip.

Final snobs: English IPAs have been around for quite some time. While we tend to steer more toward the American variants, this is an excellent example of an English IPA. BRILLIANT DAVE!!!

PROMO ALERT!!!! Tomorrow, August 30th at BOTH Casual Pint locations, the Saw Works Seasonal IPA will be released. Also, they’ll be serving $3 Saw Works pints all day. If you can’t make that one, on Friday, August 31st, Brixx at West Hills will be showing the UT game on a 90″ plasma with tents, bands, discounts and this tasty brew on tap. Oh, and did we mention it’s KnoxBeerSnob Don’s birthday?

Cheerio Yanks!
