The Brewing and Distilling Center Launches in East Tennessee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Knoxville, Tennessee, April 14, 2017 – On April 14, 2017 The Brewing and Distilling Center (BDC) will open its doors in East Tennessee. The brewing and distilling industry is expanding at a rapid rate across the country and the globe. As a result of this growth there has never been more demand for trained brewers and distillers.  The BDC is excited to provide programs that allow for interested individuals to be trained in these fields.

“It’s an incredible time to be a part of the brewing and distilling industry,” shared Dr. Todd White, the founder of the BDC. “Just last year we surpassed 5,000 breweries in the United States, that’s amazing. The interest in this industry, in the products produced, has never been greater. The demand for trained professionals will only increase. We’re excited to be a part of that. We are also excited about our faculty of expert brewers and distillers, that includes, East Tennessee’s gem, Marty Velas, Master Brewer,” Todd added.

Classes begin on July 10, 2017 and the BDC is currently accepting applicants. The PBDT [Professional Brewing + Distilling Technology] certificate curriculum is 13 weeks long. The program is designed to be 10 hours a week of instruction plus an internship that will include 52 hours of industry-related practical training. Experienced instructors, master brewers and distillers comprise the staff of the BDC. The cost of the PBDT program is also meant to be very accessible at $6,000. About Dr. Todd White: The BDC was founded by Dr. Todd White who has over 3 and a half years’ experience training individuals in brewing. Dr. White also has extensive experience in job placement in the brewing and distilling industries as he has strived to help students meet their educational, professional and employment goals. Further, Dr. White has had a lengthy career in higher education with over 25 years of experience at the collegiate level. He is a resident of Maryville, Tennessee and a regular contributor to the local craft beer culture having been a founding member of the Tennessee Winter Beer Fest, which Benefits New Hope Blount County Children’s Advocacy Center. He is also a founding member of Hops in the Hills. Todd has also been a significant contributor to Hops for Hope benefiting New Hope Blount County Children’s Advocacy Center.
